Seeking God's Guidance in Every Decision
Often, we feel sure about the choices we make. We’re confident that we’ve made the right decision, and it seems obvious that anyone in our position would do the same. Without a second thought, we move forward, convinced we’ve got everything under control. But how often do we pause to ask God if this is the path He wants us to take? How many times do we seek His counsel before stepping forward?
Too frequently, we ignore God’s guidance entirely, assuming that since He has given us wisdom and intelligence, we can figure out the rest on our own. We mistakenly believe that not every decision requires His approval. We convince ourselves that He’s okay with whatever we decide simply because we think it’s the right choice.
This mindset can be especially common in relationships. We meet someone, fall in love, and immediately assume that because the feelings are strong, it must be a sign from God that this is the person we’re meant to be with. We don’t stop to ask God if this is truly His plan for our lives, or whether this relationship aligns with His will for us. Instead, we push forward, assuming that love is all the confirmation we need. And yet, when things start to fall apart or become difficult, we begin to question why God allowed it to happen. We ask, “Why didn’t He stop me? Why did He let me make this choice?” But we fail to recognize that we never invited Him into the decision-making process in the first place.
This same pattern happens in our careers. We see a job offer that seems perfect—higher pay, a reputable company, or simply a role that excites us. Without considering if it’s God’s will, we accept the position, thinking, “This is a no-brainer.” But over time, we might find ourselves stressed, unfulfilled, or struggling in ways we didn’t anticipate. Then we turn to God, frustrated, asking why He let us walk into this situation. Yet again, we didn’t ask Him if this was His plan for us from the start.
It’s important to remember that God respects the free will He has given us. He doesn’t force us to follow His guidance, and if we choose to make decisions without seeking Him, He won’t intervene unless we invite Him into our process. God waits for us to ask for His wisdom and direction. He will not push His way into our lives if we leave the door closed. Meanwhile, the enemy seeks every opportunity to infiltrate our lives and disrupt our plans. Unlike God, the enemy doesn’t wait for permission. He looks for cracks, for moments when we are unguarded, and slips in unnoticed. This is why it’s so vital to actively open the door to Jesus and declare Him as our guide in every part of life.
Jesus wants us to involve Him in every decision we make—whether it’s big or small. He isn’t just concerned about the major life changes; He cares about the everyday choices too. When we allow Him to lead us, He helps us become the person He created us to be. He knows the future, He sees what we cannot, and He understands what’s truly best for us. If we make Him our advisor, He will ensure that we walk the right path, whether it’s in relationships, jobs, or any other area of life.
When we lean on our own understanding, we risk walking outside of God’s perfect plan for us. But when we ask Him to lead us, He ensures that we are where we need to be. He guides us toward relationships that will bless us, jobs that will fulfill us, and decisions that align with His purpose for our lives. God’s wisdom is far greater than ours, and He longs to guide us if we will only ask Him to.
Let us not push God away from the small or large decisions we face each day. He cares deeply about every aspect of our lives, and when we give Him the opportunity to lead, He will guide us to where we are supposed to be. Trusting Him means allowing Him into every decision, every step, and every choice, knowing that His plans for us are always for our good. God’s hand will be with you when you seek Him first.
