Living with Purpose Beyond Control
Life’s true essence is spiritual, transcending both material pursuits and the fleeting nature of our feelings
FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS

Yesterday morning, I felt a gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit reminding me of a simple yet profound truth: life is ultimately out of our control. We often go about our days, full of plans and expectations, yet forget how quickly everything can change. One moment we’re healthy and full of energy, and the next, we can be brought low by circumstances beyond our understanding. We see it around us too—people who seem vibrant and full of life one day, gone the next.
In our pursuit of wealth, success, and status, it’s easy to believe that once we reach a certain level, we have life figured out. We may feel untouchable, safe in our achievements, and think nothing can shake us. But life is a great equalizer. None of us can prevent the unexpected—illness, loss, or an accident that changes everything in an instant. Even with all the control we think we have, none of us can stop time or ward off life's unexpected twists.
This is where faith comes in. God, the source of all life, holds everything together. He is the ultimate author of our days, and His hand guides the paths we cannot see. When we surrender to Him, we acknowledge that He has the final say. Instead of anchoring our lives in what we can achieve alone, we can place our lives in His hands, aligning our purpose with His will. Living this way brings a deeper fulfillment and peace that the world can’t give, and it gives our lives lasting meaning.
This doesn't mean we should abandon our responsibilities. God calls us to care for our families, to work with integrity, and to steward our health and resources well. But it’s crucial to remember that we were created to serve others, to be conduits of God’s love in the world. A life of true impact happens when we look beyond ourselves and ask, How can I make a difference in someone else’s life? In God’s eyes, what we do for others, and how we extend His love and compassion, are the things that truly matter.
We don’t know how many days we have left, and there’s a beautiful urgency in that realization. Scripture reminds us, “Those who love their life will lose it, but those who hate their life will find it.” When we cling to a self-focused life, we risk missing out on the true, eternal life that comes from a humble reverence and trust in God. True wealth, honor, and joy come when we let go of our need for control and surrender fully to His purpose.
Let’s live each day not as if we have endless time, but with the intention to love, serve, and make a difference now, today. This is the legacy that will endure long after we’re gone.
