God’s Love for You: A Love Beyond Understanding
I was thinking the other day about the love of God, and it completely blew my mind. The depth of His love is so immense that it’s almost incomprehensible. One of the most astonishing expressions of God’s love is seen in how Jesus, who was God in complete glory, left His heavenly throne to come to earth. Not only did He come to earth, but He came as a vulnerable, dependent baby—an unimaginable step down from His position as Creator of the universe. This love is far beyond anything we could ever deserve or even fully grasp.
The Creator as a Helpless Baby
Think about this: Jesus, who created the universe with a word, entered our world as a newborn baby. Babies are completely dependent on their parents for everything—they need to be fed, held, and taught how to walk, talk, and eat. Jesus, the one who sustains all of creation, allowed Himself to become so dependent, to be told when to sleep, when to eat, and where to go. He subjected Himself to human frailty for the sake of saving humanity.
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Word through whom everything was created (John 1:1-3). Yet, this very Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). The humility that Jesus demonstrated in becoming a baby is beyond anything we can imagine. He didn’t have to do this. He didn’t owe us anything. But He chose to do it out of love for us.
The Price of Our Salvation
God, in His justice and righteousness, could not overlook the sin of humanity. A price had to be paid for our sins. And even though we were the ones who sinned, God decided to pay the price on our behalf.
Jesus came to earth knowing that the only way to save us was through sacrifice. His death on the cross was the payment for our sins—a payment we could never make ourselves. It was the only way to satisfy God’s righteous justice while still extending His boundless love and mercy to us.
In reflecting on this, it becomes clear that God didn’t take shortcuts. He didn’t compromise His standards of justice. Instead, He showed the greatest love by giving the most precious gift—His Son, Jesus Christ.
Humility in the Manger
Jesus, the King of Kings, was not born in a palace but in a manger. This fact alone is staggering. The Creator of the world came into the very world He made, and yet He was willing to be born in such humble surroundings. He could have chosen any number of grand entrances into the world, but He chose humility.
This wasn’t just an act of humility at the beginning of His life; it marked the way He lived His entire earthly life. From being born in a manger to allowing Himself to be beaten and crucified by the very people He created, Jesus demonstrated the ultimate humility.
The Cross: Ultimate Humility and Sacrifice
As if being born in a manger wasn’t enough, Jesus allowed Himself to be beaten, mocked, and crucified by the very ones He came to save. The people taunted Him, asking Him to prove His divinity by saving Himself. But in His humility, He remained silent, allowing them to believe they had won.
What an incredible example of love and self-sacrifice! Jesus didn’t fight to prove His power. He didn’t need to win the argument. Instead, He chose to lose in the eyes of men so that He could win salvation for humanity.
His death on the cross—the most humiliating and painful form of execution reserved for criminals—was the ultimate act of love. He took the punishment that we deserved, all so that we could be reconciled to God.
Jesus’ Call to Humility
Jesus never asks us to do something He didn’t first show us how to do. He lived a life of perfect humility, showing us what it means to truly love others and to serve. He calls us to follow His example and to live humbly before God and others.
In Philippians 2:8, we are reminded that Jesus “humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross.” His love for us is beyond comprehension, but it calls us to a response. Jesus demonstrated that the way to greatness in God’s kingdom is through humility and service.
Your Life Matters to God
It’s easy to feel insignificant in the grand scope of the universe, but Jesus’ sacrifice proves just how much you matter to God. Your life is important in His kingdom, and He paid the ultimate price to ensure that you can live in freedom. He loves you more than you can ever imagine.
This is the God we serve—one who didn’t just sit in heaven and demand our loyalty. No, He came down, humbled Himself, and showed us what true love looks like. He endured suffering and death, all for the sake of bringing us into a relationship with Him.
Conclusion: Experience God's Love
God’s love for you is deeper and more powerful than you can ever fully comprehend. Jesus Christ left His throne in heaven, became a humble baby, lived a perfect life, and died a humiliating death—all so that you could be saved. He did this out of His immense love for you.
The more you come to understand His love, the more you will want to draw closer to Him. He’s inviting you to experience His love in a deeper way, to know that your life matters, and to live in the freedom that comes from His sacrifice.
Take a moment to reflect on the great lengths Jesus went to save you. His love for you is overwhelming and unconditional. All He asks is that you come to Him, trust in Him, and experience the life-transforming power of His love. God loves you more than you think—just come closer and experience it for yourself.
